Every generation has its heroes, those people who inspire love, awe and respect in us. To celebrate the arrival of My Judy Garland Life, a new play which sees Judy Garland transform a young girl’s childhood, we’d love to know who your heroes are or were. To get you started, we asked some members of the Playhouse team to tell us about their heroes.

They included Muhammad Ali, Buster Keaton, Janis Joplin and Soviet-born ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev. It wasn’t all about well-known faces though, as many chose close relations as the people who have inspired them most.

To find out their reasons why, check out our short YouTube film here.

My Judy Garland Life is a touching and uplifting new play that takes you deeply into the joy and heartache of hero worship. It tells Susie’s story of growing up under the spell of Judy Garland and will feature some of Garland’s best-loved songs. The show promises to be an original take on the relationship between a fan and a star.

My Judy Garland Life is a new play from Amanda Whittington, based on Susie Boyt’s acclaimed memoir, directed by Kath Rogers, and stars Sally Ann Triplett as Judy Garland.
